Cadet Construction Update - Week of April 16, 2012

Welcome to the Saint Thomas Academy construction progress blog! We are excited about our first post. You can expect progressive updates throughout the pool restoration and student activities center projects.  We will include pictures, descriptions of the work occurring, fun facts, and answers to your questions.

The pool restoration project includes the removal of aging structural members within the east wall of the pool building. The east wall will be replaced with 12" insulated precast panels.  These panels will have a "thin brick" and limestone finish to match the adjacent buildings on campus.  The north and south elevations will have steel supports added to improve stability and the existing brick will be repaired and tuck-pointed.

In addition to the structural improvements several other changes will be made.  These include:

  • New light fixtures in the pool area.
  • New benches for swimming events along the east wall.
  • Improvements to the heating and ventilation system.
  • Added views into the space by removing the concession room.

Crews are currently working on the removal of the east wall of the pool building.  The new 12" thick insulated precast panels will be installed in place this week.
