Cadet Construction Update - Week of October 29, 2012

Student Activities Center:

Building Site: Crews are working hard to get much of the site related activities completed before winter weather arrives.  The loading dock slab has been poured and the first lift of asphalt has been completed in the paved areas.  The second and final lift is scheduled for this week.  The irrigation system has been installed and trees planted along the south side of the site.  The remainder of site will be stabilized in preparation for winter.  Next spring the entry plaza concrete will be installed, irrigation system started up, and final seeding of the turf grass completed.

Building Exterior: The erection of the precast and steel structure is complete.  The windows in both gymnasiums have been installed and the roofing completed.  In the "link" between the gymnasiums and the existing school building the roofing is 80% complete with framing of the main entry ongoing. The windows and curtain wall at the front entry will be installed in November.   

Building Interior: The placement of interior slabs is nearly complete with only the practice gymnasium topping slab remaining to be poured.  Interior masonry walls are ongoing in the gymnasiums and will finish with the restrooms and ancillary spaces in November.  The interior mechanical equipment has been set into the building and interior piping and power connections are ongoing. 

The painting of the gymnasiums will start soon with athletic equipment being installed right behind the painters.  As soon as masonry walls are completed the terrazzo flooring in the hallways and lobby will begin. 

Early in 2013 the gymnasium wood flooring will start with bleachers scheduled for installation around March.

Cadet Construction Update - Week of September 17, 2012

Student Activities Center: 

Building Site: The site is being final graded with work on the infiltration pond being completed later this month.  The irrigation system is being installed around the building and final seeding and sodding is ongoing.  Some of the final plantings will be installed next month.  Also in October the sidewalks and remainder of the first lifts of asphalt paving will be installed.

Building Exterior: The exterior enclosure of the building is in full swing.  Roofing has begun over the two gymnasium spaces along with the installation of windows.  The exterior precast is being caulked and will be washed by the end of fall. 

Building Interior: Interior slabs are being placed in the basement working from the east to west. The first and second floor slabs between the two gymnasiums has been placed.  Mechanical equipment has been set in the mechanical room on second floor and later this month the slab in the lobby and classroom spaces will be poured.

In October painting of the gymnasium ceilings will begin with ceiling mounted athletic equipment arriving later in the month.

Cadet Construction Update - Week of August 27, 2012

Student Activities Center - Back To School Edition:  The students returned to a much different view from the parking lot today on the first day of school.  Last week the east gymnasium floor plank, walls and joists were set in place and site paving was completed in preparation for the start of school.  Roofing will begin this week working from the West to the east with the installation of windows starting the first week in September.  The building remains on schedule to be enclosed in November.   

Cadet Construction Update - Week of August 13, 2012

Student Activities Center:


Sitework: Site activities are ongoing in preparation for the start of school on August 27th.  The first lift of asphalt is complete on the new access road off of Mendota Heights Road.  Next week a strip of asphalt will be installed in the plaza between the new building and the stadium to provide access during the athletic season.  The parking areas and site fencing are being adjusted to accomodate student and faculty parking.  Below is an image of the parking and staging plan:

Building Structure and Enclosure: Exterior precast wall panels continue to be erected along with structural steel.  Roofing and exterior window installation will begin in September on gymnasium spaces with the classroom space to follow shortly after.  Interior work such as walls, slabs and mechanical rough in will follow the roofing.  The building is scheduled to be enclosed by the end of November.
